My first proper MAC Experience

My first proper MAC Experience

Hi guys, how are you all? Have you been enjoying the bank holiday weekend? Today is my Sunday, so what better to do on a pretend Sunday than blog? Nothing!

Whilst in Reading I decided to brave the MAC counter. I’ve been wanting to get colour matched for a while now but have always been put off by bitchy sales assistants/the shop being too busy/unhelpful sales assistants. I saw that the MAC shop in The Oracle was really quiet so decided to give it a go. The girl who served me was lovely. She asked me to remove all my make-up and did a full face of foundation for me after matching the colour to my skin. She started with moisturiser, then primer, then applied the foundation with a brush. She talked me through everything and recommended certain products. She was in now way pushing me to buy MAC products and even recommended some Body Shop products.

After applying the foundation she asked if I was happy with it but in no way pressurised me to buy it. She was obviously happy that I did decided to buy it but didn’t put any pressure on me to buy that or any additional products. This has made me a lot more likely to visit that store again.

I was matched to a NW15 and bought the Studio Fix foundation. I also paid a little extra for the pump, altogether it cost me £22 and something pence or around that.

The foundation has good lasting power and quite full coverage. It applies nicely and doesn’t leave my skin oily which a lot of foundations do.

Blended into my hand.
I’ve always been a high street make-up girl not really seeing the point in paying for expensive make-up brands. Since starting blogging and seeing so many people rave about MAC I had to try it out to see what the fuss is all about, I hate to admit it, but I may now have caught the MAC bug!

Do you like to pay more for high end or do you prefer to stick to high street?

As much as my bank balance hates it – I'm a high end girl. I've got a post planned about it shortly!x

i buy expensive foundation because i have awful skin and i need something that covers it/doesnt make my oily skin oilier/last all day, and i find cheaper ones dont give the performance i need!
i love clarins, but i haven't tried mac yet so i might like that more! 🙂

I'm the same, so pale that most of the high street ones are too dark for me. It is expensive which is why its taken me so long to buy one x

  4. 28th December 2011 / 11:21 pm

I may try Clarins for my next one then, I think I'm going to sample a few of the more expensive foundations x

  5. 28th December 2011 / 11:30 pm

I haven't tried their lipsticks yet but really want to! xx

  6. 28th December 2011 / 11:30 pm

I think it's impossible not to catch the MAC bug LOL! I was extremely lucky to win some MAC stuff in giveaways and I'm hooked on their lipsticks. When I'll have a job, I hope to be able to purchase some more!

I really liked it in this store, they made me feel really at ease.
I haven't tried their eyeshadows or any other products other than this foundation yet.
I will have to treat myself to more! xx

Its a shame you didn't get on with this one, it seems to work well with my skin.
I've always found the girls in MAC to be really quite rude, and either too in your face or completely ignoring me!
This particular girl was lovely though, just a shame that the store is so far away from where I actually live!
i think I'll have to make a trip to this one everytime I visit Spencer's bro so that I can try out all the other products and not leave the store feeling like crap.x

  9. 28th December 2011 / 11:30 pm

I have nightmare skin too so this is really good for covering it up, so far so good. xx

  10. 28th December 2011 / 11:30 pm

No problem, I love reading long comments like this 🙂
I've never understood why they're so bitchy and unhelpful, it really isn't a way to make sales!
I'm wanting to try a few more high end foundations now as this has given me quite a feel for buying high end!
My bank manager will not be happy! xx

  11. 28th December 2011 / 11:30 pm

I had too and I really was put off, but this girl was so nice I want to go back. x

  12. 28th December 2011 / 11:30 pm

I've always had bad experiences before and have been really put off, this girl was lovely though and made me feel a lot better about the whole thing.
I can see this becoming an expensive addiction now haha xx

  13. 28th December 2011 / 11:30 pm

I want to try their lippie too, damn blogging, making us spend more money on expensive make-up! x

  14. 28th December 2011 / 11:31 pm

Glad you had a good MAC experience! The shop in the Oracle is great when it's quiet, I always choose my moments when going in there unless I know exactly what I want! I love MAC eyeshadows and their gel eye liner 🙂 I haven't had much luck with their foundation but I've been using Chanel's latest foundation and I am in love!

I've tried using high street make-up but for some reason the foundations give me terrible break-outs and the eye shadows tend to give me almighty headaches/irritated eyes. I'm not overly sure what the difference in ingredients in the products are but high end seems to work best for me!

I love mac & buy the majourity of my make-up from there. I have this foundation in the same colour & I think it's terrible, for the price you pay the coverage in crap, it doesn't have a very nice smell either and sort of just sticks/sits on your skin as apposed to blending nicely. I find I have to use loads to get a good even coverage. I wouldn't buy this foundation again I'd try one of the other ones like the face & body or the studio sculpt. I know a lot of people seem to be switching to illamasqua foundation insted. It's good that you had good customer service too, the handful of times I've been instore (I normally order online) I have had terrible service…can't be bothered to help you since they are having a conversation, acting really snobby & arragent when asked "do you have this lipstick instock?" etc etc. By no means am I saying every store is like this since my sister is a make-up artist & used to work for mac & everyone she worked with was lovely. All this being said, I still think their blushes & lipsticks are fantastic & I wouldn't really buy from anywhere else, plus mac is the only place where I can buy an eyebrow pencil and it actually match my eyebrows (I am really fair so the majourity of eyebrown pencisl make my eyebrows seem really really dark, not a good look since I have very light blonde hair!) xo

I have this in nc20 and it does seem to last a lot longer than any other foundation I've used. It also covers up my nightmare blotchy skin quite well! Tis a little dark for me though so I mix it with my maybelline dream satin liquid – makes it last a bit longer!

I don't know what it is about MAC assistants, to say that they work on commission normally they are not very helpful. I don't work on commission (I wish) but I would never dream of treating customers like most of them do. Though it does sound like you found one of the nice ones. Fingers crossed that the word will spread that treating customers well is the way to KEEP them. Who knew?! haha.
I may have to give this foundation a go. Since trying out high end foundation I don't think I'll ever go back to 'drug store.' I've only tried Estee Lauder and one MAC (that didn't work well with my oily skin) but I'm very tempted to give this one a go.
Sorry for the long comment, it seems that I was quite passionate about this topic. haha.

i'm really glad you had a good experience, I've had quite a bad experience with a mac assistant before which has really put me off, but I think I may have to give it another go 🙂 x

I am always put off by the girls behind the mac counters, i never have any luck so I just swatch everything and buy on their site. I find that expensive make up lasts longer, so I always tend to stick to them. A little goes a long way. The mac lippies are really nice too – feels less "chalky" than the Rimmel ones I bought. And the eyeliner pencils goes on darker and lasts longer throughout the day. I am a big fan of Mac products. Definitely an investment. x

I've only ever bought highstreet/avon make up. The only high end make up product I have is a chanel lipgloss as I tried a friends and loved the colour for parties. Before blogging I hadn't heard of MAC properly but I am now wanting to try a lippie 🙂 xx
