I finally received the January GlossyBox. This box was a lot later than usual due to the fact that it is a special box for Valentine’s Day. These themed boxes do excite me, but, was it worth the wait?
I love the hot pink box, the little pink sticker and the sweet, such lovely little touches.
Eyeko Skinny Eyeliner in Plum 0.8g (full size) £9.50
GlossyBox say : Get a handle on your eyeliner for precise definition and intense colour with a long-lasting finish.
I say : I was pleased to see an Eyeko product in my box. I’ve had products from Eyeko previously and really liked them, they have recently re-branded and I haven’t tried anything since. I was initially a little disappointed to see the colour Plum, I received a plum eyeliner in a mystery gift from ELF and will barely use that, now I have two plum eyeliners. However, I do quite like this. The colour has a kind of bronze-y / brown-y sheen to it which makes it more wearable.
They have given us a code for a free gift with any purchase.
Orly Nail Lacquer in Ruby 5.3ml approx £2.05
GlossyBox say : Orly, the top Californian brand, offers an infinite range of colours.
I say : I haven’t tried this out yet. I have plenty of red nail varnishes so wasn’t amazed to see this. I did expect a red nail varnish as it is the Valentine’s Day box. I’ve never tried anything by Orly so am looking forward to giving it a go.
Weleda One Step Cleanser & Toner 10ml approx £1
GlossyBox say : Weleda One-Step cleanser & toner is a handy two in one pack ideal for travel.
I say : I really don’t like receiving facial cleansers in these boxes. The sizes of the samples are never big enough to get a real feel for the product. My skin always reacts badly to new products, by the time I get over the initial reaction I will have finished this sample. I really do think that if facial cleansers are going to be included they should provide a decent size so that you can get a real feel for it and decide whether to buy it or not.
They have given us £5 plus free P&P off our next order of over £15.
FAB Gentle Body wash 56.7g approx £3.25
GlossyBox say : A moisturising, irritant-free everyday cleanser ideal for even the most sensitive skin.
I say : I’m always happy to receive a body wash in these boxes as it is something that I know I’ll use. I have terrible dry skin on my legs which do tend to itch after showering. I’ll be interested to see if this stops that problem. This smells quite pleasant and I like the packaging. It will have to be amazing to convince me to part with £13 to repurchase a body wash.
Murad Hybrids Skin Perfecting Primer – Dewy Finish 5ml approx £4.84
GlossyBox say : Oil free primer ignites a radiant glow, powered by light enhancing minerals.
I say : I initially thought this was a complete waste when I saw the colour of it, it angered me slightly. Then, thankfully, I rubbed it in and it blended away nicely. Despite my pale skin this is suitable. I’m not usually a lover of the dewy finish as I find it tends to leave my already oily skin looking oilier. I do think that the matte finish would have been a better all rounder to send out in these boxes. I will give this a good go though.
They have given us 33% off the Murad site.
- My rough estimate of the total box price is £20.64, not as much as previous boxes but still double the money.
- I don’t know what it is, but for me this box just seems to be missing something. When I opened it my first thought was ‘is that it?’.
- We received one full size item.
I’ve signed up for the Carmine box in February, I will then have to decide between GlossyBox, Boudoir Prive and Carmine. It is going to be difficult! I have been very impressed with what I have seen from Carmine so far and GlossyBox never seem to quite ‘do it’ for me any more. I’m not sure if I can bare to part with it though!
