Review : October FlavrBox

FlavrBox Tasting Box £20*
Meet my all time favourite monthly subscription box. Don’t get me wrong it is great to receive boxes of make-up, skin products and crafts, but a box full of luxurious food! Now that really is what I am talking about!
FlavrBox is a nifty way of discovering new products, all independently produced and available in the UK, each box contains 5-6 products.
You also receive a leaflet giving you serving suggestions for the products and telling you a little history about each of the companies which is actually really interesting. I received a welcome letter and a £40 wine voucher as a welcome present – nice touch.
So, onto the products…
Pink’s Organics Smoked Tomato Tapenade 140g. Expires 19.10.13.
This sounds amazing and I cannot wait to try it. I received smoked tomato, cashew nut and parmesan flavour which sounds right up my street. One of the serving suggestions is to stuff a chicken breast with it, I’m pretty sure I’ll be trying that out one day this week.
Olive Branch Forest Fruits Jam 250g. Expires 31.12.13.
I’m not a huge fan of forest fruits as I find that they can sometimes be too sharp, this does contain honey and olive oil so hopefully it won’t be too sharp. There are many serving suggestions for this jam including spreading on toast, mixing with yoghurt and a glaze for meat. This would probably be pretty special both on toast and as a glaze and I am planning on trying it both ways, just a shame that BBQ season is well and truly over with.
Hare’s Moor DIY Curry Kit – Rogan Josh to serve 2-3. Expires 5.11.12.
This smells amazing and I am super excited about trying it. You can make it as hot or mild as you like which is good as I’m not a huge fan of hot curry. I will definitely be buying the lamb, onion and tomatoes to go with this next week. (you don’t have to use lamb but I think I will, though I am likely to change my mind if something else is on offer!)
Sundowner Pecans and Almonds 180g. Expires 11.2.12.
These are gorgeous and I cannot put them down. I’m munching them as I type this post. It is a mix of pecans and almonds coated with crunchy seeds, agave syrup and a kick of chilli to give you the spirit of the Wild West. There is quite a kick to the chilli but it isn’t overpowering at all, believe me I wouldn’t be eating them if it was. Such a lovely treat.
The Bath Pig original Chorizo 130g. Expires 5.3.13.
I love Chorizo so again another winner! This can either be eaten straight from the pack or you can remove it from the pack and hang it to cure naturally. I’ll probably just eat it from the pack as I’m impatient!
Overall the FlavrBox is a BIG winner where I am concerned. Yes, it is pricey but I really do think that it is worth it to receive treats like this every month. This subscription could quite dramatically change the way that you eat.
All of the products have decent expiry dates which is one thing that originally concerned me, I didn’t like the idea of having all of this new food to use up within a week.
I unfortunately won’t be subscribing at this moment due to the upcoming Wedding and lack of funds, but am definitely considering it for the future. You can purchase a years subscription for £192, if anyone wants to buy me anything for Christmas this would be gratefully received haha!

I am hoping that one day my funds will stretch to a subscription. Or someone really generous buys us one for Christmas, that would be ideal! x
