I was tagged by Stressed Mum to join in with The Blogger Interview. I have been enjoying taking part in tags lately and this one really jumped out at me, I’ve had a few new followers lately and this is a great way of them getting to know me a little better!
How did you get into blogging?
I kind of stumbled into it by accident! I hadn’t read blogs previously, I didn’t really know that they were a thing! Back in February 2011 I decided that I wanted to sort my life out, I wanted to exercise more, eat less, spend less and get out of debt, I decided that I wanted to keep track of it in a public, on-line diary. I had seen a spending challenge called Frugal Feb going around on Twitter so I decided to join in with that, I then started reading the blogs of the other people taking part and realised that I could do so much more with it!
What advice would you give to a blogger just starting out?
After blogging for a while I fell into beauty blogging, it wasn’t ever something that I was particularly passionate about, it was just that companies wanted to send me free make-up, I was a little overwhelmed and said yes to everything which ended up getting quite stressful as I just didn’t have the time to review it all. No matter how tempting it is do not say yes to everything, if you already have a back log of items waiting for review it is okay to say no to samples. Again, if it is something that you aren’t comfortable reviewing, it is okay to say no. Also, one of the best things that I did (accidentally granted!) was give my blog a generic name, this made the transition from beauty blogger to lifestyle and parenting a lot easier, before giving your blog a name with ‘beauty’ or ‘parenting’ in the title really think about if this is what you want to be stuck blogging about forever.
How has your blog changed since you started writing it?
As mentioned above I started started my blog as a public diary, then switched to beauty blogging, I am almost back at where I started now and I feel like I am once again in my comfortable place. My photography has improved a lot since I began, a lot of that is due to spending more time thinking about and taking images, buying a DSLR and, most recently, completing an on-line photography course.
What would be your dream campaign?
I really have no idea! An endless pot of money to design, build and decorate a new home? A no expenses spared all inclusive trip to DisneyLand?
What advice would you give to PR’s wanting to approach you for a campaign?
Read my name and my blog. I often get emails addressed to the wrong person and asking me to cover things that would not fit in with my blog, the most recent was a sex toy!
Do you have a plan for you blog?
No plan, I’m not a planner as such, I like to go with the flow and see where I end up. For now I will continue to work hard at it and enjoy the opportunities that it brings.
What do you think about rankings?
I can’t help but get nervous when the latest rankings come out, I work so hard at my blog and really want it to show in my rankings. When I know there is a Moz update due I feel as though I’m waiting for exam results!
