A Gender Neutral Babyshower – Vintage Afternoon Tea Themed

Originally published on 4 February 2015.

My sister kindly organised a baby shower for me, it was supposed to be a surprise but it didn’t stay that much of a surprise, saying that all I knew was the time, date and location. The guests and goings on were a mystery.

My sister went down the afternoon tea route for the theme, knowing that I love afternoon tea and all things floral this was perfect for me. She even borrowed a ‘vintage’ teacup and saucer set from her partners grandfather which I failed to photograph. Everything looked beautiful, my favourite parts were the bunting and the birdcage style cake stand.

popular baby shower games labour or porn

We played several games but the funniest had to be ‘labour or porn‘, it is surprisingly difficult to guess which are pleasure and which are pain! When seeing the original photos we all decided that the porn photos were actually a lot more graphic and disturbing than the labour photos!

popular baby shower games competition make a nappy out of toilet roll

We split into teams of two and made a nappy using toilet roll. This is my team’s effort and we were the winners thanks to my creative use of the decorative safety pin.
Other games were : all guests had to bring along a baby photo and we had to identify who was who, they melted chocolate into nappies and I had to identify which chocolate it was (4 out of 5, chocaholic!), they asked Spencer questions about looking after a baby and I had to guess his answers, matching children’s names to their celebrity parent and identifying body parts on scan pictures. There were also guess cards which everyone paid £1 to fill in, the person who correctly guesses (or is nearest to) due date, sex, weight, etc will win the pot.

messages on nappies at baby shower

I was given a gift bag full of nappies, all of which had an individual message on from the guests and a few that couldn’t make the shower. This was such a lovely idea and the messages were so nice, some guests got super creative and gave us examples of what to expect to find inside nappies…

baby shower presents

Last but by no means least I was given loads of gifts, we have one spoilt little baby already. I couldn’t believe how much I was given, all of my friends were so generous which both Spencer and I are so grateful for.

What I Wore, Maternity : My Work Leaving Do
I finish work on Wednesday next week so decided to have my leaving do yesterday, at 35 weeks + 6 days pregnant. I’m still quite fussy with my food so just went along to the local Wetherspoons as I am absolutely loving their pasta alfredo with salmon at the moment. With it being a Friday evening at a pub I wanted to make a little bit of an effort with my outfit so decided to wear my new maternity/nursing dress from Yummy Mummy, teamed with ankle boots, black tights and red lipstick it ticks all of the boxes.
Maternity/Nursing Dress – Mamalicious via Yummy Mummy*
Black & Gold Bracelet – Christmas Present
Watch – Michael Kors
Gold Heart Bracelet – Primark
Ankle Boots – New Look (old)
Lipstick – Mac, Russian Red
I absolutely love this dress, it fits perfectly and is super flattering when pregnant, post pregnancy it can then be worn as a nursing dress. There is a breast feeding panel which is easily accessible via the zip. The plan is that the front pleats allow plenty of room during pregnancy and then act to hide your post pregnancy tum. I can definitely vouch for the pregnancy side of this dress, it fits great and is super comfortable.
Not only did I have a lovely evening last night but I was also presented with this delightful surprise. Some of my colleagues put some baby essentials into a box for me and this is the result. I can’t believe how much stuff there is, and what is best is that it is all stuff that will be used loads!
P.S. I am aware that there is a cat photo bombing almost every photo, it was feeding time and they weren’t happy about waiting until after Spencer finished taking photos of me for their food!

Gender Neutral Baby Shower & Gift Idea
Before you go saying “baby shower already, she hasn’t even had her 20 week scan yet” don’t panic, it wasn’t my baby shower, on Sunday I hosted a surprise baby shower for my friend who is due to give birth in November. She hasn’t found out the sex so we had to keep the shower neutral, I know yellow and grey are the ‘in’ gender neutral colours at the moment but I personally don’t think that you can beat a nice mix of baby pink and blue.
My friends and I have a baby shower box that we keep decorations and games in and pass along for the next baby shower, we have had a lot of use from the box and it saves us a fortune in buying decorations each time. I decided to add this gorgeous set of mini milk bottles and the rambling rose paper straws from dotcomgiftshop to my decorations. I simply added milk and a splash of pink/blue food colouring to the bottles (I added the food colouring to the milk in a jug before splitting it between the bottles so that the colour was the same in each).
There was a lot more food than this, instead of people chipping in for the shower I asked everyone to bring some buffet food along to take the pressure off me, we had loads!
As is tradition at a baby shower I bought a little gift. I opted for a scrap book and possibly the cutest bib that I have ever seen, this was a last minute addition that I spotted in the local newsagents and couldn’t resist.
I bought this scrapbook from eBay for £15.95 along with this baby themed washi tape from eBay for £3.45.
The scrapbook did come with the option to be personalised, as the baby hasn’t been born so we don’t have a name or sex I decided to keep it as it was. I decided to get a scrapbook as I think that it will be the perfect way of recording memories. You can stick photos, hospital bands, everything and anything into it using the pretty washi tape. There is also the option to write directly into the book and also stamp the babies hand/foot prints directly into the book.
I really hope that Claire & Phil enjoy recording their baby memories in the scrap book!

Review : NSpa Mum to Be Blooming Gorgeous Gift Set
When I received an email asking if I would like to try a product from NSpa’s Mum To Be Range I could not say no. NSpa create luxury cruelty free spa products at affordable prices. All of their products are paraben free and suitable for all skin types.
I received the NSPA Mum To Be Blooming Gorgeous gift set* which contains bump butter, stretch mark oil and bath & shower creme. This set is available from Asda for the bargain price of £6.
Despite being small sizes the bump butter and stretch mark oil will last quite a while as you only need to use a small bit at a time. I tend to use my oil morning and night and the butter straight after my shower/bath. My stomach has never felt so moisturised. I haven’t had any new stretch marks since using this combination but that could be a coincidence.
I highly recommend this gift set and think that it would make a perfect gift for any mum to be, a great idea if you have a baby shower on the horizon.

Gift Idea : Baby Shower/Mummy to Be

baby shower gift ideas - hamper for mum to be and books for baby

I never really know what to buy when I go to Baby Showers so tend to stick to pampering goodies for the mummy to be. A lot of people forget about poor mummy and buy for the baby so this is always quite a safe bet. This was actually a very organised baby shower and we were given a list of things that mummy & daddy needed, one of these things was a baby’s first year book, after seeing this book for a bargain £5 in the books bought into work from the book man (also available on-line here) I couldn’t resist buying it to go alongside my pamper hamper.

The book is beautiful and contains so much including a family tree and things to fill in before the baby is born up until they are two years old. It includes everything from first things, costs of everyday items, clothing fashions, eating, walking, talking – everything! At just £5 it really is a steal, mummy to be was VERY happy with it.
