My Love of Autumn

Autumn is my favourite time of the year. Not soggy wet Autumn, but crisp, sunny Autumn. When the leaves are golden, the sun is shining and everything feels fresh. Becoming a dog owner has taken my love of this time of the year to a new extreme, Dobby needs walking which sees me going out for Autumnal strolls sometimes 2-3 times a day.

I love everything about Autumn. I love the colours, I love the freshness, I love the fashion, I love Halloween and I love bonfire night, the smell of fireworks in the air and the child like feelings that it stirs. Autumn is a time when it really is great to be at one with nature, to feel the crunch of the leaves beneath my feet, to collect pine cones, conkers and chestnuts from the floor.

One of my favourite Autumn colours is burgundy, I love burgundy clothing, burgundy lipstick, burgundy everything – I would even have burgundy hair if I wasn’t too lazy to deal with the upkeep! This black & burgundy asymmetric checked shirt ticks all the Autumnal boxes for me. Burgundy, long and flowing and perfect for layering. Teamed with jeggings and lace up boots this is the perfect Autumn outfit for me.

Dobby also wanted to get in on the Autumn clothing action with his red tartan coat, and Aria with her Autumnal outfit and chocolate chops!

What We Wore : Christening

It’s not very often that we have an excuse to get all dressed up, so when we do we, or at least I, like to really make an effort, assuming that I have time! We were recently invited to a Christening, and so, of course, I trawled the internet in search of the perfect outfit. I ended up at my go to shop, Yours Clothing, which is where I fell in love with this beauty of a dress.

When the dress first arrived I wasn’t sure I would like it, the fabric felt as though it would cling to me which is something that I dread. I went ahead and tried it on and instantly realised just how wrong I was, the dress is possibly the most flattering dress EVER in the history of flattering dresses. The dress covers my flabby arms, conceals my mum tie and enhances my waist, add to this the gorgeous colours and pattern and it ticks every box.

With a new dress came new heels which is always a worry as I don’t do heels. I needn’t have worried, the comfort insole in these platform heels* meant that I happily strutted around in them all day right through until the early evening.

Needless to say Spencer and Aria also scrubbed up pretty well, Aria wore her Roco clothing dress and shoes and Spencer wore an old blazer from H&M.

Getting ready in the new house was no easy feat. I couldn’t find my hair dryer, my hair straighteners or a nice lipstick, yet somehow we still made it to Church on time!

Family Summer Styling with Peacocks

Wow it’s been hot lately! Thankfully we’ve had the perfect summer clothing to wear during the heatwave courtesy of high street fashion brand Peacocks*. I’ve always been a fan of Peacocks, I find that their clothes are comfortable and their sizes are fairly generous, now that I have a family I find shopping there even more practical, as it means that I can easily kit the whole family out under one roof without spending a fortune.

We decided to take a wander down to the backs of our soon to be new home (if the Solicitors ever sort themselves out) to enjoy the sunshine and, of course, take a few photos. Aria decided to become all model-esque in quite possibly my favourite photo of her ever to show off her gorgeous t-shirt and dress set. Her floral bomber jacket is perfect for throwing on over the top when the sun goes down and it gets a little chilly, I would actually love one of these in my size!

I opted for the comfortable yet flattering women’s blank hanky hem dress (which is now on sale, FYI!). This dress is absolutely perfect for me, it nips in at the waist and then flares out in a bid to hide my mum tum. The length hides my legs without being too long and dragging on the floor, which a lot of dresses do when you are only 5’3 like me. Pop a pair of cycling shorts on underneath and you needn’t worry about chub rub!

Spencer decided to be all ‘daddy cool’ in these belted shorts and a pink linen shirt, and I must admit, he scrubbed up quite well!

Chasing the Instagram Dream with Trespass

Developing the perfect instagram account isn’t easy, it takes time, effort and good shoes. Yes, you read that right, if you want the picture perfect instagram account you need to be prepared to climb places that you wouldn’t normally climb, go off the beaten track, therefore good shoes are most definitely an essential.

The Merse Women’s Waking Boots from Trespass* fit the bill perfectly and have become my go to instagram photo hunting footwear of choice. The walking boots are sturdy with a good grip and ankle support, which is very much a requirement when climbing up slippy slope-y hills and climbing over fallen trunks and twigs.

A blog review of women's walking boots from Trespass

Ain’t no tree stopping me with these bad boys on! I discovered the importance of instagram footwear on our most recent photography mission, when we decided to find a bluebell wood and I (stupidly) wore my Vans. We found the bluebells, up the top of a very steep hill. I struggled to get up said steep hill, I slipped and stumbled, at times I bum shuffled because my footwear just was not good enough for where we were. Bum shuffling in a forest is not good, I now have a hole in my trousers, RIP comfy trousers.

As you can see the bluebells were gorgeous but it was terribly difficult to climb, wearing my new go to instagram trainers would have made this shoot a whole lot easier. Judging by the looks of the above photo I think that Spencer, my (not so) glamorous instagram assistant could also do with a pair of snazzy walking boots like mine.

Watch out instagram – me and my new walking boots are gonna walk all over you!

And if you’re wondering, it was worth it, I got THE shot.

Exploring the Wetlands with Bax and Bay

We were recently sent a few items from Bax and Bay for review, items included their waxed cotton changing rucksack, The Zack, a Mama Fox sweater and the cutest little Fox Cub sweater. With new items to try out and photos that needed taking we decided to head to Newport Wetlands for a family day out / photo shoot.

The Wetlands, based in Nash Road, Newport is an RSPB site, and with a visitor centre, cafe, play area, lots of walks and wildlife it is a the perfect family day out. It ticks all the boxes for us as we got to go for a nice walk, Aria got to spot some birds and I got a pretty backdrop for my photos. Winning.

Mama Fox and Fox cub sweaters from Bax and Bay - a review

Aria and I love our matching Mama Fox and Fox Cub sweaters. They are great quality and a lovely fit. Aria’s is a hoody style sweater which she loves, this girl is a huge fan of walking around with her hands in pockets and also stashing items in said pockets. We did think it was a shame that they don’t stock a matching men’s jumper, well I did, Spencer was actually relieved as, unlike me, he finds the whole matching clothing thing a little cringe!

We’ve been looking for a practical rucksack changing bag for a little while, now that Aria is walking and we don’t always have the pushchair with us we wanted a more practical bag that didn’t fall off our shoulders and hit Aria in the face when we bent to pick her up mid strop. Not that that ever happened of course…

a review of the zack rucksack unisex changing bag from Bax and Bay

The Zack bag from Bax and Bay suits our needs perfectly. It is functional and unisex but doesn’t compromise on style. The inside of the bag is bright orange and it comes with a thick changing mat and a bottle insulator. There are two stretchy inside pockets which are perfect for storing the nappies and other changing essentials like cream and nappy bags and another smaller pocket on the outside of the bag which is the perfect size for a mobile phone. I would prefer an easier to release clasp but that really is just a matter of personal preference.

The portable changing mat that comes with the bag is nicely padded which makes it ideal for impromptu outdoor changes!

Bax and Bay are a relatively new Scottish based company specialising in multi-functional changing bags and clothing.
