I’ve ended up donating a few items from Spencer’s nan’s house clearance. I’ve happily taken them with the intention of upcycling them. I have a tendency to accept items for this purpose and never get around to doing it, taking them to the tip some six months later. I am so proud of myself because this time I have actually completed the work, well on one of the items at least…
Spencer actually eyed this chair and thought it may be something that I could work my magic on. I snapped his hands off and decided to paint it white and cover the cushion with a pretty floral fabric.
I had a pretty much full tin of Wilko quick dry satin paint in Pink Harmony left over from the kitchen so decided to paint it with this instead of the original white to save a few pennies.
I sat out in the garden painting the chair, back when it was sunny (seems like ages ago now). I gave the chair two full coats of paint and then topped up certain areas, the legs required three full coats.
I bought some gorgeous fabric from Cwmbran Inn Shops and used Spencer’s staple gun to attach it to the wooden underside of the seat. I am a little annoyed at the crease in the front, the seat is an odd shape so I thought the front was the back and therefore didn’t worry about keeping this side neat. I may yet re-do it.
Crease aside I am super pleased with my shabby chic style up-cycled chair. I love the fact that I have this beautiful one of a kind chair. I have another (different style) chair and a chest to do now. Watch this space.
Do you enjoy upcycling? I found it very satisfying.
