We’ve been dog owners for almost a year now, it’s been a challenging year. The whole family have had to adapt to life with a dog, it really is such a big change. We’ve learnt a lot along the way, most recently we’ve discovered just how important finding the right food for your dog really is.
When we first took our cockapoo, Dobby, into our home he lived on a raw food diet. We put this to a stop as we didn’t want raw food lying around with a child in the house. It really wasn’t practical for us at all. Instead we decided to try dry food, kibble.
We’ve tested various foods from various places, but couldn’t find one he would sit down and eat, not unless we fed it to him by hand or sat with him while he ate. Dobby would never eat a full meal, so we resorted to leaving food out all day, allowing him to pick at it as and when he wanted. We just assumed that this is how he preferred to eat.
Everything changed when Pets At Home sent us some of their AVA Advanced Nutrition breed specific kibble, made especially with cockapoos in mind. We gradually introduced the new food into Dobby’s diet, although I don’t think we necessarily needed to. He couldn’t wait to scoff the lot!
It is now a month since we first introduced the AVA Advanced Nutrition breed specific kibble to Dobby, and he is now eating it at two set meal times a day. That’s right, the dog who doesn’t have set meals likes this food so much that he now has set meals!
It really ticks all the boxes for us and our cockapoo. He eats it all. Since changing his diet to 100% AVA cockapoo kibble his stools have become solid. The best thing? He is now better behaved, naughty Dobby isn’t quite so naughty, this may well be down to his age, or may be just a coincidence, but there is a very good chance that it could be because he is enjoying his food.
You may well be wondering exactly why a breed specific dog food can have such a positive effect on a dog. There are fourteen AVA Advanced Nutrition breed specific dog foods and each are tailored in several ways to best suit the breed the recipe has been created for:
– The protein source (chicken, fish or salmon)
– The kibble shape and size
– Prebiotics for digestive health
All of the kibbles are hypo-allergenic and exclude wheat, wheat gluten, beef, pork and soya.
