Welcome to my ‘Meet The Welsh Bloggers’ series, where every week I introduce you to a new Welsh blogger, or a blogger living in Wales. This week is the turn of single mum Becky who blogs about her hectic life as a type 1 Diabetic.
Firstly, tell me a bit about yourself and your blog :
I blog over at Hectic Dia-BEC-tic about my life as a Type 1 Diabetic single mum to my 4 year old daughter Cici. It’s a mixture of Diabetes related posts and info, with a little sprinkling of my life as a mum, and the things we get up to together just the two of us. I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes 25 years ago, aged just 6 years old and struggled for years to deal with it. Aged 26, I found out I was going to be a mum and my attitude completely changed. I now had another being relying on me so I had to start taking care of myself for her sake.
I love how Patriotic we are as a country. Whenever there’s a Rugby match on, the whole of Wales will be out in force, dressed and painted from head to toe in red, cheering for our boys. It’s a beautiful country to live in, stunning scenery, beautiful beaches… And that feeling you get when you’re coming over that bridge from England to get back into Wales, that’s the best feeling ever!
What, if anything, is your least favourite thing about living in Wales?
It’s got to be the rain! No matter what the season, guaranteed it’ll rain!
What made you decide to start a blog?
My Diabetes Consultant offered me the opportunity to switch from insulin injections to an insulin pump to help me improve my control, and I decided I wanted to write about my journey. This, in turn, evolved into me wanting to help other Diabetics after I wrote a brutally honest post about my struggles with the condition.
Just six months after I first set up my blog, which started as a hobby, I have now started making some money from it. Nothing major, just a little bit of pocket money which helps a lot.
I don’t really know many Welsh bloggers! Obviously you Leanne… I’m a big fan of Cathryn Scott too who blogs over at A Cardiff Mummy Says. I got involved with a blogging opportunity she was running for Macmillan Cancer and she was lovely to chat to.You can find Becky at these various places around the web :
